Covering Your Tracks

How to make sure that no-one at home knows you have visited this site

Keep safe: website you have visited today are likely to have been put on a list which is automatically saved to your computer. If a certain person or people may be unhappy to know that you have visited this website, you can delete it from this list.

To do this, you must wait until you are finished using the site. You can delete the site from the list each time you use it (once you know how to do it, it should only take a few seconds), even if you visit the site regularly, but make sure you are finished each time as, if you click on anything on the website after deleting it from the list, it may be re-added to the list.

To delete this website from the list of websites which you have visited today, simply follow these 10 steps. If you have time, read them through before following them.

  1. Wait until you are finished using this site (you can return any time you like e.g. later in the day, later in the week, but you must follow these steps each time)
  2. Click on the ‘View’ menu which is usually to the top left of the screen
  3. Click on ‘Explorer Bars’
  4. Click on ‘History’
  5. A large box will appear to the left of your screen. Close your internet browser down after you have read the following instructions. Close by left-clicking the X button at the top right of the screen)
  6. Reopen your internet by left-clicking on your internet icon
  7. The large box which appeared just before you closed the internet down should still be there. If there is a list of websites underneath ‘Today’, go to step 5, otherwise click on the ‘Today’.
  8. Right-click on any websites which you like deleted from the list* and left-click ‘Delete’
  9. You will be asked if you are sure you want this item deleted from the list, left-click ‘Yes’
  10. When you are finished deleted websites for the time-being, left-click on the X which is at the top right of the large box. If you do not do this, the box will still be there next time you, or someone else, uses the internet.

*Make sure you have read the list carefully to delete all websites you want taken off the list, some my appear more than once

If you have any problems with this, please telephone the office:01388 600094

It is important to be aware that there may still be a record of your internet history left on your computer. Following these steps will at least make your history harder to track.
